LIVE WIRES
The Live Wires are on hiatus for a
while, so stay tuned.
MINUTE FOR MISSION
With some of the money from our cookbook
sales we were able to purchase Bibles for the
Marion Detention Center.  The new study Bibles
have an insert that say they came from the
United Presbyterian Church.
The Chancel Choir
Please put a request for your favorite two or
three hymns on a piece of paper and place
in the offering plate on Sunday morning.

Sean Holleran has agreed to be our organist
on basically an every other Sunday
schedule.   It's wonderful to have him back
with us.

See
The Chancel Choir page for updates.

The newsletter deadline has been set for
Wednesday, May 28th at 8:00 AM.  Please have
any articles ready for print by then.
What a wonderful fellowship luncheon we had
on April 20th welcoming Murray and his
beautiful family!  The food was delicious, James
and Wendy brought out our best china and
silver reserved for VIP's and a good time was
had by all. The next fellowship dinner is May l8
after the worship service with the Leake's in
charge.  See you there!  Everyone is invited to
bring a dish and join us.
Also, for Sunrise House (a group home for the handicapped) we
purchased a grill with a cover, a vacuum cleaner and a cooler (for
when they have outings).

They have both been very appreciative of our donations.
We would like to plan a trip to Bellwood Children’s Home
sometime in the near future involving anyone in the congregation
that might be interested in going.

Women's Circle
“Above and Beyond: Hearing God’s Call” - Sharing Circle
Study Ruth Chapter 3 - In God we Trust?

Key Idea: The true test of both calling and character is
whether we can trust God and act faithfully in the face of
uncertainty.
    - Have you ever been at a place in your life when
you wondered if God was playing games with you?
    - Did you react with an act of faith or a lack of faith in
      your uncertainty?
    - How can Ruth, Naomi and Boaz help us face
these moments with faithfulness and trust?
Jonah and Ruth affirm that God’s concern extends beyond Israel/Family to
all peoples.

We missed a meeting due to weather, so we will meet in May and June on
the second Tuesday of the month.  You are invited to join the next Women’s
Circle on Tuesday, May 13th at 10:30 AM in the parlor.  All women of the
church are invited to join them.

MISSION PROJECT: The Women’s Circle is sending homemade baby hats to
Presbyterian missionaries in Africa.  This project was one of many
suggested by Presbyterian Women nationwide.

CALLING ALL MEMBERS!!!!!
2008 is well underway but it is not too late to do your duty as a
member and serve on a Church Committee!  It is greatly
encouraged that all active members serve in some way - some
older members serve as advisors, while younger members really
do the dirty work!  We need to grow our Church Family and in order
to do this WE NEED YOUR IDEAS!!!!  Church Committees are the
best way to get your ideas out of your head and into action!  Below
you will find the new Session and their assignments.  Find
something that interests you or lines up with your ideas and
contact that Elder and get on their committee!

In the next few weeks, be prepared for a lot of pane.
Actually, lots of panes!  The church is getting new
windows!  The old windows have served us for years, but
many are now very drafty, broken or cracked and in need
of replacement.  All windows in the church, except for the
beautiful stained glass windows, of course, will be
replaced with new energy efficient windows that will
enhance the outward appearance of our church facility.
Not only that, but we will see a difference in our utility bills
(an estimated 25% savings beginning immediately).  We'll
also notice that the temperature inside the building will be
more constant.  No more wondering if we need a sweater,
a light jacket, or our sauna suits for Sunday morning
activities!  Thanks to our property committee for their
watchful care over the church facility and their work in
getting this much needed update completed.
MEMORIAL DAY FLAGS
All our Sunday School children are invited to go to the
National Cemetery to place flags on the headstones for
the Memorial Day Holiday.  We will meet at the cemetery
on Saturday, May 24th at 8:00 AM.
Below is the calendar for the rest of the year:
